Teaching Philosophy:
My goal is to create an atmosphere in the courses that I teach that encourages students to work hard, to enjoy the course, and be successful at learning lots of mathematics.  I like to use group projects and technology, in the form of Mathematica or whatever seems most appropriate, when I think it will contribute to the goals of the course.

Research Interests
My research interests are primarily in the area of differential geometry and its applications to general relativity.  I am also interested in undergraduate education and curriculum reform, especially in calculus and differential equations.

 Other Interests:

I take advantage of living in Colorado by enjoying a wide range of outdoor activities, including rock climbing, hiking, skiing, and kayaking.  In addition, I lead trips for the Colorado Mountain Club and I am the Director of the Rock Leading Course for the Fort Collins chapter of the CMC.

Links:
Below I've listed some links to mathematically related sites that I have found interesting.

Alfred Gray's web site:  This site contains Mathematica notebooks that can be used to do differential geometry.  These notebooks can be downloaded for free but require that you have access to a copy of Mathematica.  The site also has many examples of curves and surfaces.

Boston University Ordinary Differential Equations:  This site links you to many, wonderful web pages devoted to differential equations, fractals, chaos, etc.

The MathForum:  This site is a very comprehensive web site devoted to all aspects of learning mathematics.  It is also the home of "Ask Dr. Math" where both students and teachers can get answers to math questions.

Mathematical Genealogy:  At this site one can find out who someone's research advisor in mathematics was, who their advisor was, and so on.  My personal math genealogy can be seen by clicking here.
