Name: Bob Heiny Professor of Mathematics and Applied Statistics |
Classes:
Introduction to Probability, Statistics, Sampling Theory, Linear
Regression, Elementary Statistics, Calculus, and a broad range of graduate
statistics courses.
Teaching Philosophy
My approach to classes is a combination of lecture, interaction,
examples and computer laboratories. It is imperative that students work
homework problems on a daily basis and ask questions in class. New
technology is introduced to supplement basic theoretical concepts.
The classroom atmosphere is informal, open and encourages an exchange
of ideas. I also encourage students to come in for help when they need it.
Experience
1968-present UNC - Mathematical Statistics.
1964-68 - Graduate Teaching Assistant, CSU.
Research and Publications:
My research interests are in the areas of estimation theory and
developing statistical models to determine the possible presence of
discrimination in higher education salary, tenure and promotion decisions.
I have published approximately 15 articles in the fields of statistics,
mathematics and education pedagogy
Interests:
Sports: I am the NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative for UNC. I
regularly attend most UNC sporting events, attend NCAA and North Central
Conference meetings, and check on academic progress of all student athletes
at UNC.
I am also an avid golfer. I spend most summers playing golf in
tournaments around the state of Colorado.
