Department of Mathematical Sciences

Name: Terry Scott
Professor of Mathematical Sciences

Current Schedule
Education:
Ph.D. Physics, University of Wyoming (1972)
M.S. Computer Science, Kansas State University (1985)
B.S. Physics, Iowa State University (1964)

 Teaching Philosophy:
I believe students learn better if they have a chance to experience directly what is discussed in the classroom. All computer science courses that I teach depend strongly on laboratory exercises or projects. Courses where students are required to learn will be appreciated by them at least later. I have a very relaxed and open classroom. Hopefully students are not afraid to ask questions. If I don't know the answer to a question I will try to find one.

Experience:
1985-present University of Northern Colorado Greeley, CO - Computer Science
1981-1982 Missouri Western State College St. Joseph, MO - Physics
1980-1981 Southern Oregon State College Ashland, OR - Physics
1975-1980 Missouri Western State College St. Joseph, MO - Physics
1973-1975 Norwich University Northfield, VT - Physics

 Research and Publications:
My research interests are primarily in the area of improving the teaching of Computer Science. The following are selected publications and presentations over the past several years:

 Other Interests:
I like biking, hiking, camping, gardening, wood working and home improvement.
I have ridden my bike to work for the last your years. I hope to make that 5 for the next year.
