Teaching Philosophy: The two primary foundations of my teaching philosophy represent both the old and new in educational philosophy, especially in regards to Math education. First (old), I believe that one of the most important things a teacher can do is be conversant with as many ways of looking at a subject as possible, in order to reach as many students as possble. In general, it is my responsibility to reach the students where they are, not theirs to reach me where I am. Second (new), I am very intrigued by the concept of Humanistic Mathematics, and even Math as a subset of the Humanities. Reserving judgement on such sweeping generalzations, I nonetheless find much potential in these concepts as relates to the teaching, learning, and practice of mathematics, and will be exploring all of these over the next five years. Watch this space; I will update this as I learn more.
