For those who want to specialize in and teach mathematics at the pre-secondary levels. Students in this area should be aware that, in addition to a semester devoted totally to student teaching, this program calls for a significant amount of time spent in local schools in other semesters.
It is essential that students carefully plan their schedules several semesters ahead with their advisor to make sure that no conflicts in course scheduling arise. Everyone in this emphasis should also make sure to get an advisor from the College of Eduation to help plan the education requirements (this does not take away the need to meet regularly with your advisor from this department).
Pedagogical content knowledge is emphasized throughtout the program.
Graduates of this program are prepared to assume leadership roles in the
curriculum development and teaching of mathematics at the elementary/middle
school level.
